AccessGain Tool
UPDATE: Jan 27, 2011
- Version 1.1 of AccessGain has been released, containing a bugfix (see readme.txt for details).
- Special thanks to Christian Morrone for reporting and helping us with reproducing this bug.
As multiple people requested it, we are releasing a tool which will help you bypass NTFS security permissions, using the method we described in our previous article.
This could be useful when you plug in an old hard-drive with messed up NTFS permissions or in case of an old Windows installation sitting on another partition.
Click here to download the tool.

unable to install driver at vista x64…
July 8, 2009 @ 12:29 pm
Hi Sergei,
The driver can not load on Vista x64 due to driver signing requirements. The AccessGain driver is not signed so that is the reason why it won’t load.
You need to press F8 at boot time and then select Advanced Boot Options -> Disable Driver Signature Enforcement. This should allow you to load the driver even though it is not signed.

I needed to copy files from a dead XP Home laptop onto a new unit. This was always problematic, as the security got in the way. Even the tools built-in to Windows (take ownership, etc.) never worked with consistency.
This tool worked great! You’ve just saved me headaches and hassles!!

Glad to hear it helped!
Thanks for sharing this with us, Tony!

What are the three lines of code?
March 13, 2010 @ 3:32 am
This is pure genius, whilst I recognize the possible nefarious purposes of this tools. It is extremely useful for data recovery and virus removal purposes.
Its a shame the tool is practically unheard of, I only stumbled upon it by pure luck.
Thankyou very much.

Hey Bogdan and your team,
I am posting concerning certain issues with Acgain. I’ve been struggling for weeks now in order to simply get rid of ATI old drivers which are all over the place in Windows’ folder.
At first the access gain worked( I disabled the driver signature enforcement and installed the filter, as was written in the readme text file. Then I ran it in command prompt, but had to restart my computer.
After the first try, even though I boot up disabling the driver signature, it says access denied.
What’s up ? I am positive I did not do anything wrong or differently.
Thanks

Hi Raimo,
Did you try running chkdsk on that drive? It might be a corrupt file system that is preventing you from deleting those files.
Please try to check your disk for file system errors and let me know whether this solves the problem or not.
Thanks,
Bogdan

Hi Bogdan,
Thank you for the reply.
The problem is solved! As I was trying to locate my older ATI drivers on a brand new machine, I had initially turned User Account Control off (turned the slider down to minimum) and then I had turned it back on and forgotten about it. I then remembered to turn back off and Voila! it worked again.
Therefore, It might be that some Windows 7 users have to turn it(UAC) off first to be able to execute AccessGain efficiently.
Given the nature of ATI installers I was not able to fix the problem. After 5 hours of brainwork and hard work I was disappointed and had to go the easy way – system restore. I never knew how to fix the actual problem. But either way, I have the right drivers up and running and it’s all good.
But as for AccGain, I’m definitely keeping it for future reference and problems
Thanks again,
Raimo

Hello,
Tnx for your shared info. It works for me and helped to save some data from my own pc reinstalled but with no more admin rights. Thanks again
May 21, 2010 @ 3:27 pm
And the thing is that you have to reboot Windows 7 after you lower the User Account Control to the lowest level, otherwise you will still get an error…

super tare fratilor – idela pt backup – recovery sau devirusari !
July 8, 2010 @ 2:51 pm
It works great!!
Simply genius.
Just one question though.
How to uninstall it?
July 21, 2010 @ 6:32 am
Worked wonders allowing me to delete gigabytes of stuff I couldn’t before. For reference: win7 64.
Thanks!

This was a very helpful and easy to use tool. I used it with another tool to recover my data from a bad drive which would otherwise have been lost. Thanks so much!

I like the idea of this but I do have concerns.
1- Is it permanant? i.e. can it be used by others to breach the security of this, my brand new computer with win 7 home prem.?
2- I have added my other HDD (320G) with XP Pro sp3 as an “additional” storage device, but would like to access ALL the info I have put on it. I do not want to jeprodise (sp?) the new op system.
3- I am the ONLY user on this computer, therefor are there items that I should do before running this program. I sign in at/after boot.
I really don’t want to mess up this computer by inadvertantly changing “defaults” that at the present seem to make this one work so effortlessly and quickly and seemingly stable.
I’m not real bad at getting around and have done a lot since 3.1. I’ve put together and modified many other computers and have run into quite a few good times and problems since. Good ole DOS , those were the days!
I’ve taken courses years ago in Basic programing, but that’s it as far as languages.
Does this come with detailed instructions?
Thanks, mjw

bagus sekali, sangat membantu saya untuk menyelamatkan data penting saya, thanks
January 16, 2011 @ 3:10 pm
@ Marvin,
Of course it can be disabled. Just boot as normal and voila! You can even delete the files if you want. It;s only enabled if you boot as “disable driver signature enforcement” or the like. Also, unbind it from your hdd, if you want.
Let’s see what the admin has to say about it…
January 24, 2011 @ 4:27 pm
win 7-64bit – I’ve disabled signature verification and then try to select install with a right click on accgain but “install” is not an option on the pulldown. All there is is “open, cut, copy, delete, and properties”. What am I missing?
January 29, 2011 @ 10:42 pm
Hi there,
Did you right click on the .inf file or the .sys one? The .inf file is the right one to right click on.
January 29, 2011 @ 11:09 pm
Ok – after I wrote that I saw I hadn’t uncompressed the file. It gave me the option to install afterwards so I selected it. bcdedit said it was successful but after i do fltmc load accessgaindriver I get this error “Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. . .”. I really want this to work – I have fought with these stupid permissions too long!
January 29, 2011 @ 11:11 pm
This happens because the driver is not digitally signed. We plan on releasing a better version in the future which will also include a digitally signed driver.
Did you try pressing F8 key when booting Windows? A menu should appear. Select “Disable driver signature enforcement” from that menu. Then log into Windows, try loading the AccessGain driver again and please let me know if that worked for you.
January 29, 2011 @ 11:25 pm
I tried F8 but it didn’t give anything. All that appears are F12 for selecting boot device and delete to enter setup. I’ll look again.
January 29, 2011 @ 11:31 pm
F12 will get you into the BIOS. Your computer goes through multiple steps before starting Windows:
1. BIOS <- if you press F12 at this point you will stop here and get into the BIOS setup.
2. boot loader <- if you press F8 you will get into that menu I was telling you about
3. Windows is loading
Try waiting to get past step 1 (the screen which tells you about F12 to get into the BIOS) and pressing F8 before you see Windows loading. Let me know if this helped.

This tool allowed me to use xcopy to backup an old Vista hardrive to a new harddrive, thanks!
February 9, 2011 @ 9:07 pm
Hi, I tried to edit a file on my Win 7 Ultimate x64 drive that is outside my user directory and discovered that I don’t have access to anything outside of my user directory. (I only have an Administrator login on this computer.) I tried many solutions to this problem I found on the web which worked for others, but not me. I always get “Access is denied.” I installed AccessGain and rebooted with driver signature enforcement disabled, but when I run “fltmc load AccessGainDriver” I get “Load failed with error: 0×80070005″ \n “Access is denied.” I cannot imagine what is wrong. I can still create a folder as long as it is within my Users directory. My goal has become to give my administrator login Full Control access to everything on my boot drive, ultimately without without disabling UAC–but any way would be fine right now. Any ideas?
December 15, 2011 @ 4:49 pm
Hi Greg,
What account are you using when running the “fltmc load” command? Did you open a command prompt using “Run as administrator”?
Regards,
Bogdan
